Ooh la la la Music Album Launched
Finally the wait is over. The much awaited Ooh la la la Music album, handpicked by Oscar Award winner A.R.Rahman, featuring the winning bands of the popular show “Ooh la la la” is out. Saregama India Ltd takes immense pleasure in launching the new music album. The star music composer A R Rahman released the album on 7th August, 2009 in a grand function in Chennai. Ace director, Gautham Menon, received the first copy of the album.
The album is the culmination of Saregama’s effort in bringing to fore the best talent across India and nurturing music legend A R Rahman’s vision through “Ooh la la la”, India’s first band hunt. The nationwide contest championed by Dr A R Rahman has indeed beckoned every musician aspiring to make it big and provided him or her an ideal platform to perform. The contest tested for the originality, ability to perform live and develop and produce own music distinguished the best from the rest. The budding bands performed with soul and gusto that captured the hearts of leading musicians who added flavour to the contest as “Judges”. In the finals A R Rahman, changed the convention by declaring six bands Zinx, Oxygen,V3, Agam, Madras Tunes, Shirshti for Tamil and three bands Catharsis, Band of Brothers and Audio League for Telugu as winners. The tracks composed by the winners were recorded in A R Rahman’s highly distinguished A.M.Studio and rolled in to “Ooh la la la Music Album”. Each band recorded songs of their own composition giving the album a creative mix of different genres of music.
Launching the album, “It’s been long wait for the release and bands have successfully passed the real test of patience” said A R Rahman. He further advised the winners to go back to the root of their music, stay together and have fun together and not to let other disturbances affect their musical journey. On selecting multiple winners, A R Rahman said that each band had different styles and that is why he chose them all. Gautam Menon who received the first copy of the album from A R Rahman, asked the winners not to get carried away by the initial success and then slowly wither away under pressure. He stressed that it is important to stay together.
Speaking at the function, B R Vijayalakshmi, General Manager, Sareagama India Ltd., highlighted the pioneering efforts of Saregama. She said that the Ooh la la la contest is not only a non-film initiative but also a contest of that demanded an original expression and reflections of the thoughts of the bands. Apur Nagpal, Managing Director, Saregama India Ltd., said. “Basically music companies have become traders of music. They simple buy film music from producers and sell them. But we at Saregama are taking a different route by focusing on non-film music initiatives that are creative interpretations that offered a rare insight to the talent”.
Saregama also chose the occasion to celebrate the first anniversary of KM Music Conservatory, A R Rahman’s school of music. KM Music Conservatory is a pioneering effort by A R Rahman to take Indian musicians and singers to global level. Commemorating the anniversary, Saregama announced the launch of yet another non–film based initiative “ Sing along Rhymes” in association with A R Rahman.“Sing along Rhymes” is a unique album that comprises of a volume of Nursery Rhymes. The music is composed by the children of KM Music Conservatory , supervised by none other than A R Rahman.
Speaking at the function A R Rahman said he has taken extra care to make the album truly a world-class product from India. With A R Rahman, there is no doubt that these traditional rhymes will be tuned to internationally acclaimed pieces of music. A R Rahman also mentioned that “Sing along Rhymes” is the starting point for the students of KM Music conservancy to be used in his music. But on the whole A R Rahman wished that the talent of the students be recognised by every music director not him alone and good enough to be used by all.
On his young son, 6 year old Alim, who has crooned for the Hollywood film “Couples Retreat”, “He is still learning music and got musical talent. He will also lend his voice in Tamil films,” said A R Rahman. Shruthi Haasan and playback singer-actress Andrea also graced the occasion. |
