There is nothing called 'Good Music' and 'Bad Music' but only music you like and you don't. - Catharsis
How could it not be a divine intervention in bringing together the elements of Carnatic and Western music to create soul -stirring music into reality!! We introduce ourselves as Vivek Sagar, Sanjay Das and Phani Teja...as if names make a difference! We wish to speak ourselves through our music.
This is what we are in a few words-
Phani Teja takes center stage with the lead guitar, fascinated by the intricacies of Carnatic classical. He has evolved from a family of musicians who have been an early influence in his life, roots that still find their way into his many tones and tunes even today. Other than this, his interests lie deep in biotech and history.
Vivek Sagar plays bass, with that charming ability to follow the lead meticulously while on a constant search to expand and improvise along the slaps and pops of melody, capitalising on his many alternative interests and impressions by The Beatles, Coldplay and not to forget, Dr.Illaiyaraja and Shakti.
Sanjay Das plays louder than the rest, with that tendency to slip and "swing" between various induced styles of playing the drums, the most prominent among them being Fusion legend Trilok "God" Gurtu, Jazz immortal Billy Cobham, and a host of various percussionists. His rhythm patterns often settle into grooves that come out with great energy and enthusiasm, an ability that is marked because of his appreciation for many genres of music.
Leo Hornack is the featured Pianist, jazz being his most comfortable style of music. He has played and performed with lots of jazz bands from the UK. His harmony added a great sound to the band. Currently Leo is back in the UK studying Journalism. |
| Experience |

As Catharsis, we have performed a fair number of concerts and have even won a competition of sorts, one that got us an experience of recording sessions at A.R.Rahman's Studios in Chennai. The experience that we had gained at the studio is something that has moved us a lot in an electrifying way. With Studios being one of the most reputed studios in Asia, we have had a live example of sheer professionalism in the field. Our hopes have always been high after that brief stint in Chennai. |
